Fantasy History:
Ian grew up in the kingdom of Atlantica. He was the oldest born to Athena and Triton. He was happy being a merman. But when he was only just 5 years old everything changed. He had a couple younger sisters that he adored and protected. When shadows came Triton and Athena grabbed their daughters while Ian swam beside them. But he was too young and wasn't able to out-swim the shadows who took him. The shadows brought him to the sorcerer. The sorcerer took one of his scales for potion ingredient and turned him human wanting to keep him around for spells. He wiped his memories of his past, and his family. But let him remember he used to be a merman just so the changing back and forth wouldn't alarm him. He would change him back to a merman when he needed fresh ingredients. Ian escaped but without his memories he had no idea to find the underwater kingdom he was from. Or to turn back into a merman. He decided to seek out another sorcerer. He joined a pirate crew reluctantly as a cabin boy trying to find a way back to Atlantica. Only he found out it was membership for life and he was barely allowed off the ship except to help fetch supplies. Over time he became good friends with the captain's daughter Lyra. She was three years younger than him so she was six at the time. As he grew up he gave up on finding his birth family as the pirate crew had become his new family. Lyra was like the brother he never had. He was fooled into thinking she was a boy like everyone else.
When he was 19 one of the crew staged a mutiny trying to take over the ship. Lyra, Ian, and the others were able to stop him but not in time for him to fatally wound Captain Cutlas and reveal Lyra was really a girl. Something Ian hadn't been aware of. He was just as shocked although looking back he could see the signs. He talks the crew to accept her as the new captain and it wasn't her fault. That she was skilled enough to be the good captain. Convinced Lyra is appointed the new captain. A few years later when he's 28 she goes missing. He does his hardest to look for her but soon the crew gives up and appoints him captain of the ship. He keeps the ship's name in honor of her but doesn't give up hope that his best friend is still out there. The Captain and Lyra had become like a second family to them and now with them both apparently gone he felt more lonely than ever. But the crew having sensed this were there for him. He could never ask for a more friendlier or loyal crew. Many of them were older than him and had served with Captain Cutlas for years and knew his pain well. He vowed to make Captain Cutlass and Lyra proud even though he felt like a failure for not keeping Lyra safe. He avoided the first curse thankfully but with most of the world vanished there wasn't much left to pillage. He was frozen during the 28 years until the first curse broke. Once it broke they ended up stealing more from whatever settlements they could find. Or hunting and scrounging for food. The second curse pulled him to storybrooke.

Ian chuckled. She certaily had spirit. He was tempted to fight her just for the fun of it.
"Well you certainly are entertaining. Perhaps you were a court jester in our old home eh? And of course I would win." said Ian.
He paused at her words as she said she wasn't working with the sheriff.
"You're not working with her huh? Then what about her parents or the dwarves? Or heck the rest of the town? I'm sure they'd all be happy to get rid of every pirate and thief they could in this town." said Ian.
Ian smirked at her response.
"Maybe it is and maybe it isn't." said Ian.
Ian chuckled as she said she wasn't related to anyone on the crew.
"Being related to a pirate's not as bad as you think." said Ian.
He chuckled again as she said he thought highly of himself.
"Why wouldn't I? I am a pirate. Besides someone's got to."said Ian.
He blushed as she called him handsome. Why did she affect him this way?
"And you're beautiful." said Ian.
He blushed again. Why had he said that? He paused nodding as she asked about Captain Hook.
"Yes he and his crew are here somewhere. Perhaps they're the ones you're looking for." said Ian.
Ian smirked at her again.
"You're assuming a lot lass. Why don't you just go away before I embarrass you? Or you break a nail?" asked Ian.
Ian paused as she accepted his deal and he paled in shock. He was just trying to get her out of the way. Crap. Now he was stuck. His pride would not let him lose but if he won he'd have to take her out on a date. He hadn't courted someone in years. But he was a man of his word so he'd go through with this. Even if he didn't like it.
"Fine. It's agreed. You better come aboard then. More room to fight you lass and less chance of us getting interrupted." said Ian.
