Emma is blonde haired with hazel eyes. Her skin is white, with a hint of tan in it, but pretty much white as snow. She is fairly tall and skinny. She loves to wear her skinny jeans, low neck tees and her red leather jacket. She often wonders what her mother looked like, not knowing she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming.

Storybrooke History:
Emma Swan is a 28 year-old bail bondsperson from Boston who is strong and self-reliant, though still somehow not quite at home in her own skin. Abandoned at birth, Emma grew up in the foster care system. She has learned to rely only on herself, never letting anyone else get close enough to let her down. She takes a special pleasure in out-maneuvering skips on the job, and seems to prefer hauling them in by their ears.
When Emma was 18 years old she got pregnant and, knowing she was in no position to raise a child and wanting to give him the best chance possible, decided to give him up for adoption.
Fantasy History:
Emma Swan was born to Snow White and Prince James during a time of much turmoil in Fairytale Land. Some time prior, the Evil Queen threatened to destroy the happiness of all inhabitants of the fairytale world. Rumpelstiltskin prophesied that, if Emma was saved, she would come back for them on her twenty-eighth birthday.
Emma is born on the day that the Evil Queen casts a dreadful Dark Curse over all the land. The original plan was to send Snow White into a magical wardrobe that would save someone from the curse, but Prince James and Snow both agreed that Emma would be the one to go into the wardrobe.
Prince James just manages to lock Emma in the wardrobe before some of the Evil Queen's guards stab him. He stays conscious long enough to see that, when they wrench the wardrobe's door open, Emma was gone. Then he falls unconscious as the Dark Curse envelops them all.
To protect their daughter, Snow White and Prince Charming had put Emma in an enchanted tree that transported Emma to the mortal world, so she would be safe from the curse. Rumpelstiltskin foresaw that on her 28th birthday, Emma would return to save all Fairy Tale creatures and undo the curse.

In the simplest form, Emma is a list of contrasting qualities: She is hard and soft; she is intense and easy going; she is strong and vulnerable; she is safe and dangerous; she is logical and impulsive. It is exciting to play a character that is so deeply conflicted and fiercely compelled to fight for what she believes is right.
