She had taken lessons during college, and had joined the equestrian team, and continued to ride even now, finding that it brought her some peace and fun when she wanted to get away from the office.
Sarah bent forward, patting the horse that she had leased and rubbing it's neck. "That wasn't too hard, was it?" she said quietly, smiling slightly as she glanced around the course that they had finished. The colorful jumps were small, but some of the turns were quite difficult. The horse snorted, and Sarah brought her leg forward, lifting the saddle flap and loosening the horse's girth before regaining her seat and allowing the horse to walk out of the arena through the exit and head back towards the barn with a loose rein. She smiled slightly, contented, and breathed deeply, glancing at the horizon, where some storm clouds were beginning to rumble. Thoughts of Jarethen were far from her mind.
"Let's get you cooled out, hm?" she suggested after dismounting and rubbing the horse's forehead. She smiled slightly as the horse nudged her, searching for treats. "Come on..." she said, leading it into the barn, towards the wash stall, grabbing carrots out of a bag in the aisle on the way...

Jareth found it rather amusing to be out of the labyrinth and away from the goblins. He enjoyed being able to use his magic and to walk freely in his human form in the human world. But then again Storybrooke wasn't a usual town either, seeing how it was in a way like the other magical places he had visited. There was magic all around, but this town had magic out in the open.
Jareth wore his usual boots and pants, a white shirt with his necklace underneath revealed through the openness of the shirt. It was an older fashion but one he loved and was comfortable in. He had left his hair untamed as always and wore his small smile as he made his way down memory lane. Looking up Jareth found he was at the stables. Smiling he went to one of the horses and rubbed it's nose, whispering to it how beautiful it was. He liked horses, it reminded him of the days before the labyrinth. He reached down and fed it some oats, becoming more engrossed with what he was doing and not really paying attention to his surroundings.

She hummed slightly as she slipped the bridle off, and the halter on to the horse's head, pulling the forelock from under the band running over it's neck. "You worked hard, didn't you?" she cooed, offering it a piece of carrot. She grinned as the velvet nose and lips nubbled it from her palm.
Sarah reached over and turned on the water, grabbing the hose and starting to wash the horse's legs, then working up. STill humming, she grabbed the shampoo nearby and began to lather the horse up, before she stepped to it's head to wet down it's face with a sponge. She paused as she heard someone speaking, and glanced around.
Sarah froze as she caught sight of the unmistakeable figure speaking to one of the horses at the middle of the row, quite close to the wash stall. For a moment, her breath caught in her throat again, and she bolted behind the wall of the wash stall, startling the horse next to her, which snorted and eyed her as though she might bite. He's back! Damn it! What the hell?! she thought furiously. What do I do? Wait, gather yourself up, where did your backbone go, Sarah? she thought, frowning. She straightened up, brushing herself off of imaginary dust, and smoothed back her helmet hair. She stepped out of the wash stall, and faced Jareth, her hands on her hips as she glared at him. "What the hell are you doing? Why are you following me?"she spat, marching towards him, shaking a carrot at him unknowingly, then catching herself and wishing she had her crop instead...

Jareth looked up from feeding the horse the oats and saw a figure dash behind a stall. He wondered if he had somehow scared them or if something else had happened. Before Jareth could ask if they were all right, his heart stopped as he saw Sarah walking towards him angry as ever. In his surprise at seeing the woman who had stolen his heart years before in the same place as he was, Jareth dropped the rest of the oats. "Sarah," he whispered as if trying to convince himself that this was really happening.
Jareth took a step backwards and as she attacked him with her words and an amusing display of jabbing the air with a carrot, Jareth regained his composure. "I haven't seen you in years Sarah. I don't know what you're talking about. I just came to visit with my brother, seeing how we've been to Storybrooke before." Jareth spoke calmly, honesty showing in his face, along with the surprise at seeing Sarah again.

"Ohhh don't lie to me. Like hell you haven't seen me, or have you already forgotten about the sandwich shop? Visit your brother, my ass. You don't even belong in this dimension, why would you be visiting, much less have a brother living here? What are you really doing here, you rat?" she growled, her green eyes furious as she glared at him, wishing there was a pitchfork nearby to defend herself with.
Sarah ignored a horse as it snorted in her ear, making her flinch, but continue to glare at Jareth. "I beat you. Why are you back? How are you back?" she demanded, her voice low and wary, yet upset and angered as well...

Jareth watched Sarah, and as he did he realized that his love for her had only grown stronger. As she went on he realized that Sarah would only see and only believe what she had told herself to believe and see, or what Jarethen had done to her. He was angry at his brother for doing this, his brother knew that he loved Sarah, and to do this to her was just like him. "Sarah, I don't know what happened in the sandwich shop, for I wasn't there. I have a twin brother named Jarethen, he rules part of the labyrinth with me and takes care of the dragons along with the goblins. We have been to Storybrooke before you ever came into my world. This place is connected to magic, so we were able to go in our human forms. That is probably why I am able to talk to you like this, and why I am able to be here. We come to enjoy life, for we like the people here."
Jareth paused before continuing, "I don't know how it works now that we are in different places in our lives. Perhaps because we are outside of the places that we knew each other in, I am able to be here, and not have to be in my other form before you. Think this through rationally Sarah, look at the evidence."
"Here, ask an old friend of yours from the labyrinth the answers you seek." Sighing Jareth took out a crystal and he moved to hand the crystal to Sarah, saying as he did, "don't worry it won't do anything to you. It's...what is it called...like talking on the phone but you can see the other person as well. All you have to do is say the name of the one you want to talk to. I will be outside, so you may have privacy, unless if you wish for me to stay in sight." Jareth waited for her to respond, hopping that she would at least be reasonable and try to see the truth.

Her eyes traced down his shirt, blushing as she noticed what she was doing. She blinked and looked away, turning her head. She shook herself mentally, then caught what he was saying. "Really? A twin brother??" she snorted, though she seriously took it into account. That bastard was going to catch hell if what Jareth said was true.
Sarah fidgeted, her thumb running along the carrot before her nail dug into it, the fibers giving with a release of juices as he continued, not knowing quite what to think now that her original anger had faded. She looked nearly alarmed as Jareth held out a crystal. A gift, not for an ordinary girl that takes care of a screaming baby echoed in her head, and Sarah looked wary. "No. I don't want to hear it from someone you can manipulate. I want your word." she growled, her hand clenching around the carrot, her knuckles white. She didn't dare call her friends. She hadn't in....well, she had lost count of how many years it had been, and she didn't have the heart to tell them that she had avoided them. She had known that it hadn't been a dream, but she had been so afraid that Jareth would come back through any connection he could to take vengeance..
"Your word, Goblin King," she repeated, finally meeting his eyes and staring back at him.

Jareth smiled at her words and he slipped the crystal back into his pocket. He was glad he didn't have to use it. At least her asking for his word meant that she was willing to trust him in some way. He knew it would take baby steps to get Sarah back, and he never knew if she would ever return his feelings, but he had hope that she would.
Jareth looked at Sarah, honesty showing in his eyes, "you have my word that I have a twin brother named Jarethen. We look exactly the same but are different from one another. He helps rule part of the labyrinth but in addition to goblins he also has dragons, which is reflected in his character. We have visited Storybrooke before, and were taking a break from the Labyrinth. We...I had no idea that you were here." Jareth looked at Sarah to see if she was following before continuing, "is there anything else you would like to know?"

Her heart panged painfully for a moment. She knew she should talk to her friends, but she couldn't face them, not right now at least. One thing at a time. Sarah pulled herself back to watch Jareth. Anything else she wanted to know? There were several things she wanted to know. Sarah hesitated, getting her thoughts in line, more nails puncturing the carrot as she kept it away from the horse that was stretching for it from it's stall.
Sarah hestitated before speaking, her voice catching for a moment as she eyed him warily, not sure whether or not to voice her question. "After it was all done...When I... finished the...challenge... Were you angry? Do you hate me for that? Were you really going to turn Toby into a goblin?" What was meant to come out as one question led to more, a flood of inquiries spilling past the broken dam of her hesitations and sealed lips. Sarah blushed, her nails digging even farther into the orange vegetable...

Jareth watched her dig her nails into the carrot, and if it had been a living animal he would have felt sorry for it. But he could understand her need to do it, after all she probably thought he was never going to come back into her life, that she could go on living like it never even happened.
Jareth listened to her questions and the fact that she thought there was even a possibility of him hating her made him upset. "To first answer your question about Toby. When you asked the goblins to take him away, you knew the consequences. But because you completed the Labyrinth those consequences didn't happen. For others it does, but it does not mean I am cruel in doing so, I am just doing what they wished and knew would happen. Though not all will become goblins, my brother and I do need to find willing heirs for both of our thrones."
Jareth paused and took a deep breath, "I did everything for you Sarah, I did it all because you asked. I would paint you mornings of gold, I wanted to give you, your dreams, to place the moon within your heart." Jareth turned, closing his eyes, and then looked at Sarah, his sadness and hope, honesty and most of all his love for her showing like pools of water in his eyes, "I wasn't mad at you, or angry, and I never could be. I was hurt. I was hurt that you had found...that you had won my heart...and you...rejected me. You still have my heart Sarah, but I understand why you had to leave." Jareth waited patiently for her to answer, hoping this time she wouldn't leave, that she would at least give him a chance to win her heart and to love her forever.
